Ancestry, the global leader in family history and consumer genomics, appointed ALTU to undertake the initial due diligence and subsequent workplace fit out of their 14,000sqft new HQ in Dublin City Centre.

Working to a challenging three-month program and within the constraints of an occupied building, ALTU successfully designed and delivered an award winning and dynamic workplace scheme for the company’s 98 staff.

Meeting the client’s brief and strategic objectives, the design solution developed by ALTU integrated the company’s brand and image across a series of open plan workspaces married with innovative break-out, dynamic collaboration and amenity areas.

The project fully coordinated by ALTU in BIM, which was used throughout the work stages to inform the design, enable visualizations, assist scheduling and construction coordination.

The completed project was awarded ‘Fit Out Project of the Year’ and ‘Fit Out Project of the Year (Office Small)’ in the Irish Times Fit Out Awards 2013.

ALTU are engaged to design and deliver an innovative new Primary Care Centre supporting the delivery of public health, nursing, diagnostic, allied and mental health services to the surrounding local community of Loughlinstown and wider South Dublin catchment area.

The scheme proposal for the new Centre sensitively responds to its context, which sees the building form represent the meeting point of two routes converging and is defined by a focal point at its main entrance.

The new building will utilise the existing site topography to allow for strategic circulation and access and increasing its permeability. The new Centre will include a range of facilities to support several Primary Care teams, including paediatric, older persons, occupational therapy and mental health, in addition to a GP Surgery and retail Pharmacy.

The core brief for this project was amalgamating various departments of the National Ambulance Service together in one central, shared facility. ALTU were engaged to develop and deliver a scheme that would see the provision of workspace for the National Aero-medical Control Desk, Patient Transport Services, PSIAM services and National Ambulance Incident Control Room.

The main design challenge presented was to create a building that respected the distinct identity of each user group, while simultaneously generating a sense of organisational unity among them.

ALTU were involved in the project from due diligence, through concept design to completion. Considerable care had to be taken in the design of the fit-out as it represents a key piece of National Infrastructure and the arrangement of spaces and potential views into the premises had to be evaluated carefully. The premises itself presented considerable challenges not least of which was the requirement for the vast data centre on the fourth floor which required the insertion of a new structural steel support floor independently connected to the existing structural frame.

ALTU led a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team for the fit out of the NAS Control Centre on mirrored sites in Tallaght and Ballyshannon.

This project won Healthcare Fit Out Project 2014 at the Irish Fit Out Awards.

This masterplan for Celbridge Lodge sensitively weaves a new residential community into the rich historical and natural landscape of the site. The design revolves around the preservation and enhancement of the existing Celbridge Lodge, its associated buildings, and the mature trees and foliage that characterize the area.

A key design element is the historic route from the gate lodge to Celbridge Lodge, which has been thoughtfully retained as a pedestrian entrance, creating a strong sense of arrival and connection to the site’s past. The masterplan ensures the prominence of the original house by keeping a large area to the front of the lodge clear, allowing it to remain a landmark feature in the landscape.

The development is organized into four distinct character areas, each drawing inspiration from the original Lodge and its surroundings. This approach creates a varied and engaging environment, where the new architecture is in constant dialogue with the site’s heritage, resulting in a unique sense of place that is both contemporary and deeply rooted in its context.

This project involves an extension and reconfiguration works to an existing nursing care home facility in Kilbrew Co. Meath.

The existing nursing home shares a site with a gate lodge at the entrance and a protected structure (Kilbrew House) to the north of the existing building. The existing nursing home rests in the landscape in front of Kilbrew House. The proposed works include a new single storey extension to the north facade to consist of a new entrance/reception area, cafe and hairdressing space which intertwine with social spaces for visitors and guests. At ground floor level twelve twin rooms are to be converted to eight double rooms and minor reconfiguration works will take place at first floor level bringing the total number of bedrooms to 58. The exterior stone finish of the proposed extension works in correlation with the existing building materials which lie within the surrounding landscape.

This residential masterplan envisions a new community of over 250 homes and a crèche, thoughtfully sculpted in response to the site’s unique and challenging features. The design is fundamentally shaped by the dramatic, hilly topography and the presence of a historic ringfort.

Rather than imposing a rigid grid, the layout is organised around a circuitous road that elegantly follows the natural contours of the land. This key design move creates a series of unique character areas and connects the distinct elevations of the site while inherently discouraging use as a traffic shortcut, ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for residents.

A central linear park acts as a green spine, establishing a pleasant and accessible pedestrian and cycle-friendly route that weaves through the heart of the development. To foster a vibrant, community-oriented atmosphere, prominent corners and areas fronting this park are defined by carefully placed duplex and cottage-style homes. This approach creates an active public realm with a welcoming, human scale, where the architecture and landscape are seamlessly interwoven.

Prometric is a leading provider of technology-enabled testing and assessment solutions to many of the world’s most recognized licensing and certification organizations, academic institutions, and government agencies.

Initially ALTU were engaged to undertake the due diligence process on this project, which included simultaneous programming and completion of Landlord works and plant resuscitation.

In order to meet the client’s challenging timeline, it made sense to utilize the acquired knowledge of the team that had worked on the due diligence and continue their involvement with the project.

Already familiar with the requirements for the fit-out and the design of the subject property, ALTU could act as a single point of contact and responsibility to the client.

Our BIM capabilities were used throughout the process to inform space planning, enable visualizations and assist scheduling, all of which facilitated prompt decision making in respect of finish selection, furniture layouts etc. The project was delivered within programme and budget.

This masterplan introduces a dynamic new residential quarter into the historic heart of Kilkenny City. Situated adjacent to the city’s existing military barracks, the project is a carefully considered apartment and duplex scheme that responds to its urban context with buildings ranging from three to five storeys.

The design prioritizes the creation of a high-quality living environment, with apartment clusters arranged to form intimate and sheltered courtyards for residents. These green spaces offer a sense of community and respite within the bustling city center.

Beyond its residential function, the scheme is a key piece of urban placemaking. It strategically connects to the existing cinema complex to the south, forging a new retail core and activating the streetscape. Furthermore, new pedestrian routes are created, linking the development westwards to Kilkenny’s main city area, seamlessly stitching the new quarter into the existing urban fabric and enhancing connectivity for the entire community.

Momentum is a company provides award-winning Soft Services to businesses and organisations based in UK and Ireland. They engaged ALTU to develop their new Headquarter premises in Dublin 12.

When they bought a disused 1970’s Warehouse fronting Naas Road at the Bluebell Luas Stop, a former distribution centre for Heineken, they engaged ALTU to redevelop it into their new Headquarters comprising office space, training facilities and a secure warehouse.

The existing fabric of the building was in poor repair, although tests on the Portal Steel Frame concluded that it was structurally sound. It was decided to strip the building fabric back to the portal frame, create a new two storey office and staff facilities block to the front of the building and a high bay warehouse to the rear.

A new highly insulated skin with large expanses of full height north facing curtain walling to the office areas and rooflights to the warehouse, maximised daylight while providing an energy efficient and pleasant working environment.

This masterplan envisions a new residential quarter located just west of the Kilkenny City ring road, offering a thoughtfully designed mix of low to medium-density housing. The scheme creates a varied and inviting neighbourhood character through the use of duplexes and cottage-style homes.

At the heart of the development is a new neighbourhood centre, incorporating a primary retail anchor and smaller units, positioned to become the social and commercial core of the community. A defining feature of the masterplan is the integration of a large, zoned open space, which serves as a significant public amenity. This elevated green space has been strategically designed to capture and frame panoramic views over the city, celebrating Kilkenny’s iconic Cathedral as a prominent landmark on the skyline.
