This masterplan introduces a dynamic new residential quarter into the historic heart of Kilkenny City. Situated adjacent to the city’s existing military barracks, the project is a carefully considered apartment and duplex scheme that responds to its urban context with buildings ranging from three to five storeys.
The design prioritizes the creation of a high-quality living environment, with apartment clusters arranged to form intimate and sheltered courtyards for residents. These green spaces offer a sense of community and respite within the bustling city center.
Beyond its residential function, the scheme is a key piece of urban placemaking. It strategically connects to the existing cinema complex to the south, forging a new retail core and activating the streetscape. Furthermore, new pedestrian routes are created, linking the development westwards to Kilkenny’s main city area, seamlessly stitching the new quarter into the existing urban fabric and enhancing connectivity for the entire community.
